Christmas Eve Advent Wreath Candle Lighting Litany

1st Reader: On this holy night we light all four candles in the Advent wreath.

The candle of Hope. (Light the first purple candle.)
The candle of Peace. (Light the second purple candle.)
The candle of Joy. (Light the pink candle.)
The candle of Love. (Light the fourth purple candle).

2nd Reader: We are reminded of the gifts of hope, peace, joy, and love we receive in Jesus

3rd Reader: Now we light the Christ Candle, and we rejoice that the promise of God has been fulfilled in the coming of the Baby born in a manger.

4th Reader: When we look at the Christ Candle, we remember that Jesus is the light of the world.

5th Reader: John 8:12: “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’”

6th Reader: God sent Jesus to give hope, peace, joy, and love to all people.

7th Reader: Prayer: Thank you, God, for your son, Jesus. Thank you for sending Jesus for all people. Help us remember and rejoice again because Jesus is born. Amen.
